Dick was born in Gorleston, Norfolk on August 09, 1947 but the family moved to Haywards Heath in Sussex when he was still a babe in arms.  He grew up, went to school & started his family there.  He was the proudest a man could be of his son Daniel, who is now married to Sarah and lives in Australia with Dick's adored Grandaughters Hanna & Georgia.   Dick was always a hard worker - even at school he had money-making enterprises.  He turned to Engineering as his chosen career and carved out a reputation as an brilliant engineer at that.  He absolutely thrived on the complex challenges that his work in the Pharmaceutical industry presented, but worked in a whole range of demanding environments around the world - often in less than ideal conditions.  When he decided to go freelance and set up on his own, taking Richard & Bert as Partners in Gravelye Engineering (GEAL) he really hit his stride and took that dormant company with £40 in the bank to a very successful business,  with Blue Chip customers running multi-million-dollar projects.  He died aged only 68 after a 2-year battle with oesophageal cancer.  Not so much a battle as roller-coaster ride of wringing every last drop of happiness and adventures with Christine, his partner of 15 years, and wife of 3 years.  Having had the tender care of the Nurses at the Viking Day Unit Chemotherapy Centre at Margates QEQM Hospital, his end was a gentle one,  with Dan & Christine at his side, after only 24hrs in the wonderful, amazing, loving & skillful care of the Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury.  He died at 14.30 on Wednesday 10 September 2015
